Visit your dentist as often as advised.

To maintain healthy teeth and gums, it’s important to have regular check-ups and professional cleaning. You should also see your dentist if you have pain in your teeth or mouth or bleeding, swollen gums.
You can also ask your dentist about dental sealants. Sealant is a material used to coat the top, chewing surfaces of the teeth. This coating protects the tooth from decay and usually lasts a long time.

What can go wrong?

Tooth decay can be painful and lead to fillings, crowns or inlays. If tooth decay is not treated, the nerve of the tooth can become infected and die, causing an abscess. This may then need root canal treatment or even extraction.

It is very important that you keep up a good oral hygiene routine to keep your teeth and gums healthy at home.

How do I keep my teeth and gums healthy?

Good dental health begins with you. By following this simple routine, you can keep your mouth clean and healthy:

✓ Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day using fluoride toothpaste.
✓ Use a small to medium size toothbrush.
✓ Use a toothbrush with soft to medium multi-tufted, round-ended nylon bristles.
✓ Use small circular movements to clean your teeth.
✓ Change your toothbrush regularly, every 3 months or earlier if the filaments are worn.
✓ Clean between your teeth using interdental brushes, dental floss or dental tape.
✓ Have sugary drinks and foods less often.
✓ Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
